District Celebrates Opening of New Outdoor Learning Spaces
Students across the Imagine Everything School District will soon enjoy fresh air and hands-on learning thanks to the opening of newly constructed outdoor learning spaces at several schools this summer.
The project, funded through a combination of district support and community grants, includes shaded seating areas, native plant gardens, outdoor whiteboards, and flexible spaces designed for classes of all ages. The goal is to create engaging environments that support environmental education, collaboration, and exploration.
“These spaces give teachers the freedom to take learning beyond the four walls of the classroom,” said Director of Facilities Niko Barragan. “Research shows that outdoor learning can improve focus, boost creativity, and support student well-being — and we’re thrilled to bring those benefits to our schools.”
Teachers have already begun integrating the new spaces into science labs, reading groups, and art activities. Students say the change makes class feel more dynamic and enjoyable.
“It’s nice to learn outside and experience what we’re studying,” said one fifth-grade student during the first week of use.
The district plans to expand the initiative in the coming years, with future phases exploring outdoor technology stations, small amphitheaters, and community-use features.
Families and community members are invited to visit the new learning spaces during upcoming school open-house events.
