Absence Reporting

If your child will be late or absent, it's important that your school is aware as soon as possible. Our goal is to have all absences explained and all students accounted for each day, knowing that they are all safe.

How you report your child's absence will depend on their grade.

Elementary students (K-8)

SafeArrival is a student absence reporting system that makes it easy for families to report student absences, late arrivals and early departures from school. It also allows school staff to respond quickly to all unexplained absences.

With SafeArrival, families report a child’s absence at any time in one of three ways:

  1. Use the SafeArrival website, go.schoolmessenger.caThe first time you use the website, select Sign Up to create your account. Select Attendance, then Report an Absence.
  2. Use the SchoolMessenger app on your mobile device Download and install the SchoolMessenger app from the Apple App Store or Google Play (or from links at go.schoolmessenger.ca).
  3. Call the toll-free number 1-855-209-6155  Follow the instructions to report an absence using the automated phone system.

Secondary students (9-12)

Attendance is taken electronically by the teacher during each period. If your teen will be away from school, please call your school directly to report their absence.

All attendance records are collated at the end of the school day. If there are any unexplained absences, parents/guardians will receive a call at approximately 6:30 p.m.

If you have any questions or require any assistance, contact your school directly.
