School Council members are important partners in education who every day make a difference in the lives of our students and school communities. We value the role and contribution of our school council members and their commitment to help boost parent involvement and student excellence.
In our efforts to strengthen this partnership that we share, the Peel board has developed a collection of resources to guide and assist members throughout the year, including the School Council Resource Guide. Our school council section below provides materials, templates and links to Peel board and Ministry documents that council members and school staff will find helpful.

Parents Reaching Out (PRO) Grants
2025-26 Parents Reaching Out (PRO) Grants
Information for families on the 2025-2026 Parent Reaching Out (PRO) Grant school application
The Ministry of Education’s Parent Reaching Out (PRO) Grants program provides funding to school boards to work with their Parent Involvement Committee (PIC) to lead projects, initiatives or activities that address local parent needs and/or remove barriers that prevent parents from participating and engaging fully in their children’s learning and educational progress through an equity and inclusion framework. Peel District School Board is currently accepting applications from School Councils for the 2025-2026 school year.
Ideas for PRO Grants to consider:
- Literacy and numeracy supports for parents in helping their children (presentations, workshops, events)
- Initiatives to combat Anti-Black Racism, Anti-Indigenous racism, and initiatives to support anti-racism and anti-oppression education (e.g., parent information evenings, workshop series)
- Mental health and well-being (i.e. parent/guardian workshops on how to support child/children)
- Enhanced multi-lingual support (e.g., virtual presentations, online networking to support newcomers)
- Food sovereignty and environment (e.g., hiking, community gardens)
- Parent/guardian physical health and wellness
- Providing targeted resources to meet specific parent needs (e.g., parent curriculum-briefing workshops)
- STEM (e.g., in-person learning nights)
- Online safety presentations (e.g., cyber-literacy)
Applications must involve School Council consultation with and approval of the School Principal. Applications must be submitted by a School Council parent/caregiver member, rather than school administrators. Only one application per School Council is permissible. Projects, initiatives or activities must take place in the 2025-2026 school year and are eligible for funding up to a maximum of $1,000 (minimum will be $500.00), dependent on the number of applications received. School Councils are encouraged to collaborate on a joint proposal with neighboring School Councils on projects, initiatives or activities. Each School Council must submit their own application separately. Schools must adhere to their proposed budget when spending funds and measure the success of their PRO Grant for ministry fund accountability.
This year, the due date is firm as funds will be allocated according to how many schools have applied by the deadline. The PRO Grant Application deadline is February 13, 2026.
